Hi everyone,

Podcasting is a great way of interacting with your students from a distance. Instructors can record themselves with free audio editing/recording programs such as Audacity and then upload them to Angel. They could be brief 5 minute mini‐lectures that you can update weekly/monthly. We’ll show you how to upload these audio files in to your course, create a specific folder to upload them to, and show you how you could post them in your discussion forums.  Most important of all – the podcasts can be downloaded and listened to on a variety of devices.

We are doing something different with our workshops this year, so please view the video below to see the new layout.

We’ll also be using a new program to deliver the workshops called JoinMe. If you’ve never used JoinMe before, please see the access/installation instructions in the WS 407 Angel course. PLEASE NOTE: You will actually be accessing the workshop via the workshop link in Angel.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, April 24th from 2-3PM EST If you would like to attend the workshop, please enroll yourself in the workshop, by going in to Angel, search for the course “WS 407” and using the PIN# WS2014Click here for instructions on how to enroll in the workshop. There will also be an assignment at the end of the workshop that will give you full credit for participating. The live workshop will also be recorded and posted later for viewing in the workshop course and the Online Instructor Community.

APA Formatting/Info Literacy Workshop is Available!

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for those who attended the workshop on Thursday. I hope the information provided will help you and your students with APA citations. The library has a plethora of resources available when it comes to APA and I highly encourage that you check out what is available – http://www.sjcme.edu/library/getting-help-with-citations. For those who weren’t able to attend, Lia Horton, the Reference & Information Literacy Librarian, from the Wellehan Library, has recorded a 12 minute walk-through of the APA resources. I have posted this video in the Online Instructor Community (past workshops are also available in there as well). Once you are in the Instructor Community, click on “Training Materials” and then select “Workshops” to find the “APA Formatting/Info Literacy Workshop” workshop that was held on March 27th.

You can also view the workshop by clicking the link below:

Have you had issues with your students with APA citations? Have you referred your students to the Wellehan library before?  Please feel free to share your comments with us and your colleagues! Be sure to stay tuned for Kristin’s posting about Turnitin!

Have a great day!

Hi everyone,

We’ll be partnering with the Wellehan library to discuss the vast information that is available to the students on APA. We’ll go over some free tools that will help students cite their sources as well as go over what the Wellehan library has available to all students with their online resources. We’ll discuss tips on helping students cite their sources correctly, which in turn will result in better papers. The workshop will be held on Thursday, March 27th from 2-3PM EST. If you would like to attend the workshop, please RSVP to me by Wednesday, March 26th at  jsparks@sjcme.edu.

The workshop will be delivered over the internet as an interactive audio conference. Speakers are required for this workshop.

Completes part of COI 202

Hi Everyone,

Angel comes with a plethora of tools that are readily available to our entire faculty. The tools that we will focus on for this workshop will allow you to completely monitor your classroom. You’ll be able to set up reports that will let you know how often students are logging in or accessing a certain content item within your course. You can have all of this information sent to you, directly to your SJC email account. With the monitoring tools of Angel, you will be able to set these reports to run periodically – monthly, weekly, and daily – however often you wish to have it run. Which students are lagging and falling behind? By setting up the reports and agents, it will allow you to stay on top of your classroom.

In order to maintain your Certified Online Instructor Status, you must take one workshop each year and successfully complete the required assignment. If you have not obtained your certification, you can find additional information in the SJC Online Instructor Community in ANGEL.

Completes part of COI 201 & 202

Hi Everyone,

Have you ever wondered what that “Sandbox” course was on your Angel course list? This workshop will explain what it is, and how you can use it! The sandbox courses are designed for faculty to test things out in a safe Angel course environment, without the fear of effecting your live course. Have you ever wanted to add some content to your course to enhance it? Come across a video on YouTube that would go perfect with a lesson in your course, but you don’t know how, or where to add it? We’ll look at resources like MERLOT and MIT’s OpenCourseware and how you can add these elements to your course(s). No shovels required!

In order to maintain your Certified Online Instructor Status, you must take one workshop each year and successfully complete the required assignment. If you have not obtained your certification, you can find additional information in the SJC Online Instructor Community in ANGEL.
